What you do in Girl Scouting makes a difference

There are 17,000 girls in Central Florida that are a part of the Girl Scout movement, where we build girls of courage, confidence and character. An additional 6,000 adult volunteers are currently helping to make Girl Scouting a reality for these many girls.

Without adults playing many pivotal roles, Girl Scouting couldn’t happen. Whether you’re a leader, learning facilitator, parent or guardian, volunteer, mentor or play any other role, you awaken in girls their promise to develop to their full potential to make the world a better place. Research shows that the influence one caring adult has on a child will last a lifetime. Thank you for reaching out to these 17,000 girls!

We are shifting the focus from “training” to the much broader “adult learning.” To be consistent with other councils around the United States, Girl Scouts of Citrus Council is replacing our previous leadership training; Girl Scout Basic and age level training with the following GSUSA learning modules:

• Online Volunteer Orientation
• Volunteer Essentials -- (Service Unit Level)
• Leadership Essentials -- (Online or Classroom)

To be an adult volunteer in a leadership position, you will need to complete the following process:

Step 1:  Complete the Volunteer Application/Consent Form and receive a favorable background check.
Step 2:  Complete the Online Volunteer Orientation.
Step 3:  Meet with a service unit team member for Volunteer Essentials.
Step 4:  Complete the Online Leadership Essentials course or attend Leadership Essentials in a classroom setting.

All volunteers working directly with girls will need to complete the Leadership Essentials course in order to have a thorough understanding of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to ensure all girls have the opportunity to benefit from the new program.

Leadership Essentials is just that - the essentials. As always, additional topics will be covered in other learning opportunities for the adult volunteer’s further development. These learning opportunities will be provided in multiple formats.
