Girl Scouts from Girl Scouts of Citrus Council's six county area are featured in the media (newspaper, TV and radio) frequently. Some of our Girl Scouts have been helping others in their community. In either case, our Girl Scouts are in ACTION!

Brownie Troop Visit Speediatrics

When a Brownie Troop begins its Girl Scout Cookie campaign, it has a meeting to set goals and decide what to do with the profit. The girls from Brownie Troop #1182 of the White Sands Service Unit determined they would like to donate $100 of their profit to children who are sick and in the hospital.

This group of special first and second graders thought about putting others before themselves to help children in need. The troop visited Speediatrics on March 23 to present its check to Halifax Health.

Girl Scout Leadership Days
Each year, Girl Scouts throughout Florida gather in Tallahassee to participate in leadership seminars and then visit their legislators to advocate for important legislation that impacts girls. In preparing for this trip, our girls participated in a workshop sponsored by our local League of Women Voters. In addition to learning about lobbying and advocacy, the girls studied the suffrage movement. That was the inspiration for our first ever, and very successful, PROtest. This protest was conducted by our VOICE girls (Girl Socut Senior and Ambassador leadership team).  These girls wanted to let Central Florida know that Girl Scouting is more than cookies. While we were in Tallahassee, the girls participated in a mock debate in the senate chambers, met with the Lt. Governor, and sat in the chairs of the justices of the Supreme Court. Most importantly, they met individually with their representatives and senators to tell the story of the Get Real Mentoring Program and to ask for support for this program in the budget. The girls were well prepared, enthusiastic, articulate and incredible representatives of all that is great about Girl Scouting. Click here to learn more about Get Real.
