High Adventure

Steps in Planning a High Adventure Outing

When a troop decides they want to try out a high adventure outing, they need to take a look at whether they are ready for the intensity of the activity that they are requesting. Adults must use discretion in choosing activities appropriate to the skill and age level of girls in their group.  Once that is done - the process of planning a high adventure activity is outlined in the following steps.

•  Review the Safety-Wise guidelines for the activity.
•  Review the list of activities that are considered high adventure.
•  Review the list of Prohibited Activities

Currently Citrus Council has vendor lists available for the following types of activities:
•  Aquatic Education
•  Billie Swamp Safari
•  Horseback Riding
•  Snow Skiing

Review the Vendor List to determine if a vendor you have chosen is Council approved. If the vendor is on the approved list – make sure that the insurance expiration date is after the planned date of your adventure.

If vendor is not listed, submit a vendor request, so the vendor/insurance can be researched prior to approval.  This process takes a minimum of 4 weeks.

Questions regarding vendors should be referred to Theresa Rivera, manager, Girl Leadership Experience - Camp Pathways, at (407) 228-1662 or trivera@citrus-gs.org.

Go over the Safety-Wise guidelines with the vendor to ensure that they meet Girl Scout safety standards. Obtain a copy of waiver or disclaimer if required by the vendor.

Submit a copy of the vendor waiver or disclaimer, Citrus Council Release and Hold Harmless Agreement (if listed as part of the activity) along with the High Adventure Request Form for the activity to Theresa Rivera at Citrus Council, 341 N. Mills Ave., Orlando, FL 32803 or by fax to (407) 894-0966.  The complete paperwork packet must be submitted to Citrus Council for review at least four (4) weeks prior to the activity date. You will be notified of approval or denial as soon as all information has been verified.

Prepare your troop for the outing and make sure that they have all of the required special equipment that may be needed.

Enjoy the trip with your troop!
